Mumbai, 27 May 2025 – The Indian film fraternity celebrates a historic achievement as Mr. Abhay Sinha, President of the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association (IMPPA), has been unanimously elected as the Vice President of FIAPF (International Federation of Film Producers Associations) and FIAPF Headquarters ASBL. The prestigious announcement was made during the FIAPF Annual General Assembly held on 17th May 2025 in Cannes, France.
Mr. Sinha’s election marks a proud milestone for both IMPPA and Indian cinema, reaffirming India’s growing influence in the global film industry. Under his visionary leadership, IMPPA—established in 1937—has emerged as a proactive and internationally engaged body, steadfastly supporting Indian producers and content creators across the globe.
Among his notable contributions, Mr. Sinha spearheaded IMPPA’s continued presence at the Cannes Film Festival for the second consecutive year. In 2025, over 40 Indian films and industry delegates participated, celebrating India’s cinematic diversity on a global platform. He also represented India as a panelist at the Bharat Pavilion discussion, “Changing Paradigm of Film Screening: Theatres to OTT, Digital Platforms and Beyond,” sharing expert perspectives on the evolving nature of film consumption and distribution.
On the domestic front, Mr. Sinha has been instrumental in driving policy reforms for the film sector. His efforts have led to enhanced subsidy policies and support systems for filmmakers in states such as Maharashtra, Bihar, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. He has also worked diligently to streamline the Film Certification process and advocated for stronger industry representation in national film governance bodies.
Mr. Sinha has actively addressed several pressing issues in the industry, including Virtual Print Fees (VPF), the challenges of film exhibition, and taxation reforms aimed at easing financial pressure on producers and distributors. Furthermore, he has raised his voice against the proposed 100% tariff by the United States on foreign entertainment content—warning of its impact on cultural exchange and the global spread of Indian cinema, and calling for equitable trade practices.
As the founder of Yashi Films, Mr. Sinha has produced over 150 feature films in multiple languages and more than 5,000 TV episodes. He is also the force behind the International Bhojpuri Film Awards (IBFA)—the first global award platform dedicated to Bhojpuri cinema. IBFA has been hosted in several countries and supported by Indian tourism organizations, bringing regional cinema into the international spotlight.
Mr. Abhay Sinha’s elevation to the role of FIAPF Vice President is a defining moment not only for him personally but for Indian cinema as a whole. His leadership promises to bring greater global visibility, collaboration opportunities, and policy influence for Indian filmmakers on the international stage.
